The scammers noticed that OpenAI’s chatbot ChatGPT was met with great worldwide interest.
A group of people tried to defraud some users by claiming that they were making a chatbot software similar to ChatGPT. However, this effort was exposed with the emergence of some reports.
ChatGPT-Like Scam Attempt Debunked
Blockchain security firm CertiK has confirmed that the newly launched Web3 company BlockGPT is a scam. Also, a study by PeckShield revealed that more than 800 BNB collected during BlockGPT’s pre-sale contract were deposited into Tornado Cash.
In a press release earlier this month, BlockGPT announced its vision to develop an artificial intelligence system on the blockchain that works in the style of ChatGPT. Unfortunately, this press release, originally transmitted via Globenewswire, was automatically moved to Bloomberg as well.
Importantly, the Bloomberg article contains very few indications to help readers perceive it as a paid press release, not news. In fact, there was no disclaimer or “Paid” in the press release on the website. Blockfence, the security aggregation provider, drew attention to this situation in a tweet:
“FYI, Bloomberg and Bloomberg Crypto await your readers for further clarification and a little research from you to prevent potential future scam projects.”
However, the details of the news were investigated and it turned out that this situation had nothing to do with the story.
