Amazon uses customer conversations to train AI

Amazon responded to the allegations regarding its artificial intelligence application Alexa. The company confirmed that customer conversations were used to train the AI.

It raised concerns

In an environment where artificial intelligence competition is heating up, e-commerce giant Amazon has intensified its breakthroughs in the field of artificial intelligence. But it has recently come under scrutiny for how much customer data it uses to build its large language model (LLM).

At a live event last week, the company said its generative AI technology would be coming to Alexa and Amazon’s smart home devices. An interview broadcast on Bloomberg TV raised concerns about what data the company uses to train Alexa’s artificial intelligence. It was claimed that the company listened to customer conversations and used these conversations to train artificial intelligence. Amazon responded to these claims.

The customer is asked first

“We believe training Alexa with real-world demands is essential to providing customers with an accurate and personalized experience that is constantly getting better.” Amazon spokesperson made the following statements, underlining that customers are given options regarding the use of records:

“But in parallel, we give customers control over whether Alexa voice recordings will be used to improve service, and we always respect customer preferences when training our models.”
