Russia’s third-largest oil producer, Gazpromneft, is entering the Bitcoin mining industry.
Gazpromneft, one of Russia’s leading oil producers, will partner with Swiss-based Bitcoin mining company BitRiver to supply energy to oil fields. BitRiver will help Gazpromneft develop data centers in new oil fields where there is no infrastructure. The United States had sanctioned BitRiver for helping Russia evade sanctions.
This type of collaboration is not new in the industry. Last March, it was reported that Exxon Mobil, the largest oil producer in the USA, is also piloting Bitcoin mining operations.
