International Photography Agency Magnum Releases NFT Collection

Magnum, the internationally popular photography agency with offices in New York, Paris, London and Tokyo, has launched the NFT collection.

Magnum released an NFT collection covering the agency’s 75-year history on June 28. The world of photography has now changed drastically since Magnum’s founding 75 years ago. For more than seven decades, Magnum photographers have changed, adapted and thrived in modern environments. One of the most popular innovations of the last period was NFTs. The agency has now stepped into this world with its photographs.

Collection Consists of 3 Sets

As part of its 75th anniversary celebrations and to embrace the future of photography this year, Magnum has released its first NFT collection of 75 images in three sets from its growing archive. For the first time, collectors, the Web3 community and the general public will have access to 1/1 printed photos from the Magnum archive and several of the 20th and 21st century’s most acclaimed photographers.

The first selection was curated by Alejandro Cartagena, photographer and co-founder of Obscura.io, a community of artists, collectors, curators and builders with a mission to empower photographers in the Web3 ecosystem. The Magnum 75 curation comes from an existing partnership between Obscura and Magnum, where eight photographers have been commissioned to produce custom NFT photographs. The first selection was submitted on June 28 through the NFT marketplace Foundation. This set includes both classic and contemporary images from the 75-year archive, including Patrick Zachmann, Stuart Franklin, Olivia Arthur and Alec Soth.

Olivia Arthur, Photographer and President of Magnum, made a statement on the subject and said:

“The world of NFTs is new, exciting, and in some ways intimidating for an organization that has been around for 75 years. As with any development in photography, we are eager to learn, experiment and understand what the prospects are for blockchain technology and how it can be integrated into the way we share work. I believe these tools will become extremely important to the wider photography industry, and I am thrilled to be part of Magnum’s first official foray into the world of NFT.”
