Uniswap Liquidity Provider Hacked for $8M

A liquidity provider on Uniswap was hacked for $8 million.

Security firm PeckShield said a liquidity provider at Uniswap was the victim of a phishing attack, and the hacker stole more than 7,500 ETH (about $8 million).

The hacker targeted the victim using a fake Uniswap airdrop token. When the user requested the token, they interacted with a smart contract that gave the hacker full authority over the wallet.

At the time of the attack, the wallet was providing $8 million to the Uniswap WBTC/USDC liquidity pool.

After gaining access to the wallet, the attacker exited the user’s liquidity position and transferred the assets. The hacker then used Tornado Cash.

Making a statement on the subject, Binance CEO stated that there is no attack on the protocol, it is just a phishing attack.

Uniswap founder Hayden Adams joined CZ, saying the phishing attack was “completely separate from the protocol.”
