Finland Sells $47M BTC: Donates Proceeds to Ukraine

Finnish authorities have sold Bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies added to government grants over the past months. The state donated the proceeds of these sold cryptocurrencies to Ukraine.

Finland Sells About 46.5 Million Euros of BTC

The statement made on Finland’s official website in the past hours is as follows;

“1889.1 Bitcoins (BTC) were sold, from which the sales revenue for the state reached approximately 46.5 million euros. He confiscated Bitcoins in connection with the investigation of customs and drug crimes. There are about 90 BTC legally held in customs, in addition to those currently held. Customs has also taken over other virtual currencies, but the currencies or their amounts will not be disclosed in more detail as the preliminary investigation of the cases continues.”

The Finnish Customs agency made it public on its official Twitter account that it sold cryptocurrencies that were donated by the state. Finland also announced that it has 90 BTC, it has a budget of about 2 million dollars, but will not sell it because the cases are under investigation. He also stated that it is also from other cryptocurrencies, but will not reveal anything specific.

The customs office spokesperson made some statements to Decrypt; “As far as Finnish Customs knows, the total sales revenue will be donated to Ukraine. The donation has already been approved by the Finnish Parliament in the second supplementary budget this summer.”
