Florida Government Issues Warning Against Crypto Scams

Florida’s Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) has released five items that can help citizens identify and avoid potential scams.

FDACS has shared information regarding automated call scams, which include requesting payment for services via gift cards and cryptocurrencies.

The following items frequently used by scammers were emphasized:

  • Urgent Action: A call or text opens the door to fraud, saying it’s urgent that you take immediate action to continue your vehicle’s warranty coverage.
  • False Information: An outside company is asking for money by offering to extend the factory warranty in a way only the vehicle manufacturer can.
  • impostors: Scammers may ask for money by implying that they work for a company you know and trust.
  • Personal information: Requests for your Social Security number, driver’s license number, or credit card information are sure signs of fraud.
  • Payment method: If you are asked to pay with a gift card or cryptocurrency, it is a scam.
