Popular science fiction writer Neal Stephenson published his novel “Snow Crash” in 1992, in which he introduced the concept of metaverse to our lives. The author is now working with another crypto OG, Peter Vessenes, to bring his vision to life.
The duo announced on Wednesday that they have created their own metaverse-focused blockchain called Lamina1. Vessenes will be CEO of the project, while Stephenson will serve as chairman. Lamina1 will focus on open metaverse versions with a focus on virtual and augmented reality integrations. Stephenson told CoinDesk in an interview:
“While big companies like Microsoft [MSFT] are starting to get interested, we’ve also seen many smaller players starting to get involved. There are many people who want to enter the Metaverse and build their dreams, build their ideas, realize their creative ideas or commercial ambitions.”
Lamina1’s testnet and betanet is scheduled for release later this year and the ultimate goal is to create an immersive 3D metaverse inspired by the novel itself.
