The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will allow the public to pay their bills, TV subscriptions and airline tickets with eNaira.
The editor aims to popularize the product by increasing the use of eNaira.
Nigeria, which is the most populous country in Africa, is also among the countries that strive hard for CBDC in the continent. Introduced last year, eNaira emerged to make financial transactions “easier and smoother for all strata of society.”
The central bank will update the use of CBDC next week, allowing the public to make payments such as utility bills and plane tickets. To do this, the regulator has partnered with mobile banking firm Bizim Mobile. Nigeria Central Bank governor Bariboloka Koyor shared various details on the matter:
“From next week, there will be an update to the eNaira quick wallet application that will allow transactions such as DSTV or electricity bill payment and even airfare payment.
This is a project initiated by CBN to reach every Nigerian in terms of financial inclusion, efficiency of banking transactions and security to make banking transactions much easier and safer. Nigeria can enjoy the benefits of eNaira.”
