China Expands Uses of Digital Currency

Chinese,announced that its digital currency (CBDC) is valid at all 125 subway stations in Ningbo city in Zhejiang Province.

China continues to expand the use of digital yuan. In a range from Beijing Olympics to many parts of the country, digital currency began to be accepted. The latest step was the introduction of digital currency at subway stations in China’s Zheijang province.

Chinese Subways Start Accepting Digital Yuan Payments

Digital yuan payments will be accepted at 125 different subway stations in Ningbo, which has a population of about 9.7 million. It is stated that Ningbo is the ninth city in the country to roll out digital yuan applications in the subway, and is at the forefront of third-party pilot cities.

Chinese citizens can start using digital payment by adding any of their ICBC, Agricultural Bank, Bank of China, Construction Bank of China, Communication Bank or Postal Savings Bank accounts to the application.

The rail operator did not specify whether it would allow commuters to pay subway fares directly from their digital yuan wallets.
