Congressman Highlights Importance of CBDC
Congressman Jim Himes said that the US should try to move forward in CBDC development in order to compete in the digital asset industry.
Himes noted that if such a study is carried out, they will have another option when the time comes.
Pilot projects for CBDCs are starting to take shape in countries like Australia, Iran, Japan and even Russia.
Himes, who currently serves on the House Financial Services Committee’s Subcommittee on National Security, International Development and Monetary Policy, said that his support for the CBDC pilot project was based on the idea of not wanting the United States to be left behind.
Himes said the US is currently “out of nowhere” in developing a CBDC pilot project. According to him, first of all, politics should reach a consensus on this issue.
