According to a criminal defense lawyer, Do Kwon, who is currently detained in Montenegro, could spend at least a year behind bars as the country considers extradition requests.

Do Kwon, who is currently detained in Montenegro and potentially awaiting extradition to the United States or South Korea, will reportedly face tough conditions in the country’s penal system.

According to the March 29 Protos report, an unnamed defense attorney said conditions in Montenegrin prisons and prisons have not changed from those described in the US State Department’s 2020 human rights report.

The report cites a case in which prison officials were convicted of torturing and causing grievous bodily harm to 11 inmates in 2015, as well as other poor conditions in some of Montenegro’s prisons due to overcrowding and lack of medical care.
