EGM Closes 6 Crypto Wallets With “Earthquake Relief” Themed

The General Directorate of Security (EGM) closed six illegal crypto wallets created under the so-called earthquake donation.

The General Directorate of Security (EGM), taking advantage of the earthquake disaster in Kahramanmaraş, made a move towards those who created a crypto wallet and collected illegal donations. EGM shuts down 6 crypto wallets that cast a shadow on crypto donation.

EGM Takes Action Against Earthquake Crypto Donation Scams

The General Directorate of Security (EGM) closed six illegal crypto wallets created under the name of so-called earthquake donation, after the earthquakes that took place in Kahramanmaraş and were felt in the surrounding provinces.

It has been talked about for a while on social media that many fake accounts are posing as NGOs, collecting aid and using crypto donation campaigns as an opportunity and fraud.

In the last statement made by the EGM, it was stated that within the scope of virtual patrol activities, the address and location information of the individuals who called for help through social media platforms after the earthquakes were determined and coordination was established with the relevant units.

In this context, it was determined that 15 social media accounts requested money under earthquake relief and used 6 crypto asset wallet addresses. Thereupon, EGM provided the freezing of these wallets and arrested 17 people in this context. In addition, 46 websites that were determined to be created to abuse the goodwill of those who wanted to help earthquake victims and were prepared for phishing scams were also shut down.
