Ethereum developer Peter Szilagyiannounced on Twitter that there was a bug in the latest version that caused data loss.
Approaching ETH Merge While the coin is currently one of the most anticipated events in the crypto community, it is not far from hiccups. However, Ethereum developers are quick to respond to emerging issues.
Unexpected Situation in Ethereum Merge
Ethereum (ETH) software developer Péter Szilágyi announced on Twitter that they found a bug that resulted in an undesirable situation. He explained that it was probably one of the pull requests converging towards the new storage model or online pruner.
We've just released Geth v1.10.23, a hotfix to patch a state corruption in 1.10.22.
If you've already updated to .22, you will have to roll back your chain and rerun the last 2 days to ensure everything's ok. More in the release notes.

In a later update, the developer stated that the issue could most likely corrupt the databases of those running the version and cause data loss. He added that the data loss issue occurs when the system is shut down, so his tests were unable to catch the error.
After the update was released, Szilágyi advised the community to wait until the tests were finished to make sure the development would be “in good condition”. The developer apologized on Twitter for missing the issue during the testing phase and promised to figure out how to run better debugging tests. The developer also thanked the people who helped resolve the issue.
