Aya Miyaguchi Announces Departure from Ethereum Foundation
In an announcement made on Tuesday, Aya Miyaguchi, the Executive Director of the Ethereum Foundation, revealed her decision to step down from her current role. She will soon transition into her new position as president of the organization. This update comes amid significant changes in leadership within the nonprofit, particularly as interest in the Ethereum blockchain has waned among new developers in recent months. Some critics have even pointed to Miyaguchi’s leadership as a contributing factor to the lagging price of Ethereum’s token compared to other cryptocurrencies.
Miyaguchi expressed her enthusiasm for her new role, stating, “This new opportunity will allow me to continue supporting EF’s institutional relationships, and to expand the reach of our vision and culture more broadly.” Her commitment to the Ethereum Foundation has been evident since she joined the team in 2018, following its establishment in 2014. As executive director, she has played a pivotal role in guiding the organization through various phases of development.
In response to her announcement, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin took to X to share his thoughts, emphasizing the positive impact of Miyaguchi’s leadership: “Every success of the EF – the steady execution of Ethereum hard forks, client interoperability workshops, Devcon, Ethereum’s culture and steadfast commitment to its mission and values, and more – is in part a result of Aya’s stewardship.”
As the Ethereum Foundation continues to evolve, it remains to be seen who will take up the mantle of executive director. CoinDesk reached out to a spokesperson from the EF for more information regarding her successor, but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
