Altcoin hacks come clean , they will be declared white hat hackers
According to Optimistic’s Etherscan data, hackers sent another 1 million OP tokens to Vitalik Buterin’s wallet address. It also placed a message in the “input data box”. The message is as follows:
Hi Vitalik, I believe you, I just want to know your opinion on this matter. Meanwhile, help to confirm the return address. I’ll return the rest later. And hello Wintermute (crypto market maker), sorry I only have 18 million tokens. I can only return this much. Stay Optimistic.
Hacker confirmed to be a bona fide hacker. It also asked the developers to provide a return address to send the remaining OP tokens if the address is verified. Crypto market maker Wintermute also confirms that there are only 18 million OP tokens for refund.
Wintermute requested on Thursday that the hacker return the stolen OP tokens. So he gave her a week to come clean and consider moving into the “white hat.” Also, the team learned an important lesson from the hacker. They offered suggestions for the future or other types of collaboration.
Optimism (OP) crashed first, up 25% today
After the hacker OP agreed to return the tokens, the price of Optimism (OP) increased by about 10%. It has gained a significant amount of volume in the last two hours. The OP is currently trading at $0.8895. It rose roughly 25% from the low of $0.7142 to reach $0.9207. Its price has gained 25% at one point today. After the hack, it had lost more than 30% of its value.
OP token dropped more than 30% as a result of the Optimism hack. As a result, the ATL price registered $0.7142. The price recovered most of its losses when the hacker sent 1 million tokens to Vitalik Buterin and Wintermute agreed to refund investors.
