Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, speaking at the “TRT International Metaverse and Broadcasting Forum” organized by TRT, stated that Turkey should be a part of the metaverse construction process.
Altun said that the forum will provide an important platform for discussion on how Web 3.0 and the metaverse will shape the media and publishing field in particular. Altun used the following statements about the metaverse:
“Undoubtedly, the metaverse offers a new vision of the world for individuals, states and the global society, but as in every technological development, it is necessary to consider the opportunities and threats of the metaverse medium. we have to. It is vital to be involved in these developments and to read them correctly in order to seize the opportunities brought by the ‘Metaverse’ and to oppose the threats.”
Also conveying his thoughts on metaverse and simulation, Altun said:
“If the metaverse is a simulation universe, then can we talk about a border between reality and image? Are we talking about the disappearance of truth? The idea of connecting the human brain to the virtual world may not be a problem in the first place for the sake of entertainment, comfort and financial gain. However, it is an undeniable fact that this will exacerbate many existing problems, including ‘digital colonialism’, ‘digital siege’ and ‘digital fascism’. To all these concerns, which have increased with the growth of the simulation industry, it can be added that the big technology companies that claim to design this transformation now position themselves as publishers. Therefore, in the upcoming period, we need to be prepared and vigilant against the threats and dangers posed by digitalization and technology as well as the opportunities it offers.”
“Turkey Should Be Active in the Construction Process”
Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun stated that Turkish companies should take quick steps in the metaverse area:
“The threats faced in the digital world require a digital legal order all over the world today. Our Presidency, which has been fighting for truth in every field since its establishment, together with all our institutions and organizations, believe that the ‘metaverse’ should be developed in a way that will benefit humanity. When we look at the point where social media platforms, which were once said to be hope for humanity, we see that they are marketing the fascism imposed on the world to all humanity under the name of ‘democracy’, of course, we express that we are faced with a serious risk. We know very well how terrorist organizations suppress the voices that they do not like in these environments where they make propaganda without any intervention. For these reasons, we believe that a power like Turkey, which represents a much larger geography of the heart, should be a part of the construction process of the ‘metaverse’ with all its possibilities.”
