Kenya’s Largest Energy Producer to Provide Geothermal Energy to Bitcoin Miners

KenGen, Kenya’s largest energy provider, will provide geothermal energy to Bitcoin miners.

Kenya’s largest electricity producer, KenGen, whose power is more than 80% renewable energy, plans to give excess geothermal energy to Bitcoin miners. The geothermal energy in the region is estimated to be between 10,000 MW and over 14,000 MW.

The country is the largest geothermal power producer in Africa, with 863 MW of equipment capacity providing over 14,000 megawatts (MW) of power. Miners who want to take advantage of this offer of the company have already started to apply to KenGen. However, as there are currently no Bitcoin mining companies in Africa, those interested in the offer are likely to be predominantly from the US or Europe.

KenGen, on the other hand, did not disclose the amount of excess energy it plans to provide to Bitcoin miners.
