Lazarus Group Returns With $100M Hack

Blockchain security firm Elliptic has announced that Russian crypto exchange Garantex has been associated with North Korea’s Lazarus Group hacker group to launder some of the funds stolen in the Atomic Wallet hack. Elliptic estimates losses from the Atomic Wallet hack to exceed $100 million.

Atomic Wallet confirmed reports that some user wallets had been hacked on June 3 and stated that less than 1 percent of its active users were affected. However, no updated information has been provided yet.

Elliptic tracked more than 5,500 wallets affected by the attack and said North Korean hacker group Lazarus Group was responsible for this massive crypto theft that followed last year’s Horizon Bridge incident.

Elliptic stated that they are working to recover the stolen assets and stated that they are tracking and freezing the stolen funds in cooperation with inspectors and exchanges around the world. More than $1 million in stolen assets were frozen as a result of these efforts.
