Electronics retailer MediaMarkt has announced the launch of crypto ATMs.
MediaMarktSaturn Group announced in a press release that crypto ATMs have been launched at three Saturn stores in Cologne, Frankfurt and Dortmund. As part of a six-month pilot project, Saturn customers can now convert fiat coins to Bitcoin or Ethereum and load them into their digital wallets.
Saturn wants to enter the crypto world with a consumer-friendly attitude. According to Christian Stephan, the group’s head of innovation research, there is an increasing demand for cryptocurrencies, especially from tech-savvy customers.
The initiative was co-founded with Kurant, one of the market leaders in crypto ATM distribution. The company has more than 200 crypto ATMs across Europe. Kurant has been collaborating with MediaMarkt in Austria since 2019. In April 2022, the company placed its crypto ATMs in 12 MediaMarktSaturn stores in Austria.
