Metaverse Experience in the Ancient City of Izmir

Metaverse content reflecting the Roman period of the Ancient City of Smyrna, located in Konak district of Izmir, will be published next month.

The excavations in the ancient city known as “Agora” by the people of Izmir have been carried out by Assoc. Dr. It is chaired by Akın Ersoy. Located between Kadifekale and the sea, the agora has a basilica, graffiti and a 2,000-year-old water canal.

Our City İzmir Association implemented the Cultural Heritage Lives Project in order to better promote the agora. Within the scope of the project, the Roman version of the agora was prepared as the metaverse content. From next month, the project will be able to be viewed with virtual reality (VR) glasses in the center to be located in the Ancient City of Smyrna and over the internet.

Coordinator Şebnem Yurdakul made the following statements about the project:

“The Ancient City of Smyrna is located in the very center of the modern city. Smyrna Agora is one of the most important elements of this city. It is one of the largest agoras in the city center in the world and also has the richest Greek graffiti collection in the world, with nearly 3,000 graffiti. Despite all these values, Agora is not well known and unknown. We want him to see the value he deserves, to be understood and to be known. The focus of our project is the agora. Among the partners of our project are the University of Catania and the Santagata Foundation from Italy, and the Egaleo Asian Minor Association from Greece.”
