Million dollar attack

Seychelles-based cryptocurrency exchange HTX (formerly Huobi) was attacked by a hacker and lost $7.9 million worth of ETH. While the exchange stated that it had identified the culprit, it called for the return of the funds under the threat of legal action.

The announcement of the attack, which took place on Sunday, September 24, was made on September 25. Confirming the attack, Tron’s founder and Huobi consultant Justin Sun also shared the hacker’s address. He also stated that all losses were covered by the stock exchange and related problems were resolved. Sun added that HTX held a total of $3 billion worth of assets for clients, and its losses to the hacker were worth just two weeks’ worth of revenue for the exchange.

1 week was given

The exchange published the following blockchain-based message stating that it gave the hacker one week to return all funds by providing the address:

“We will offer you a 5 percent white hat bonus. “If you do not return the funds by then, we will involve the law enforcement authorities.”
