It is stated that the popular game Minecraft has not yet banned NFTs, but this ban is on the way.
Microsoft-owned game developer Mojang announced its plan to ban Minecraft’s use of NFT in July 2022. However, nearly a year later, the planned ban has not yet come into effect.
Minecraft’s Ban Announced in July 2022 Still Not In Force
Mojang said in a statement last summer that they will update Minecraft’s usage guidelines to include certain restrictions on the use of NFTs or assets specified on the Blockchain. However, Minecraft’s guidelines still haven’t been updated and no follow-up announcement has been made.
Speaking on the subject, a Microsoft representative confirmed that the update of the official guidelines will still occur in the near future and the policy has not changed.
Minecraft’s anticipated NFT ban announcement comes after a surge of unofficial and community-focused Web3 projects built around Microsoft’s long-running game Mojang. Microsoft stated that as of 2021, Minecraft has 141 million monthly active players across all devices.
This update has caused controversy and anticipation in the Minecraft community regarding the potential use of NFTs. It is not yet clear whether Minecraft will allow NFTs in the future and what approach it will take. However, it was stated that Microsoft will update on this issue and explain the relevant policies.
