New focus of crypto thieves: Fake MetaMask sites!

MetaMaskCrypto scammers targeting their users have started creating fake websites to gain access to investors’ wallets.

Fake in India, Nigeria, Egypt, Colombia, Brazil, Vietnam and more MetaMask sites detected. Ethereum-based crypto wallet MetaMask has become the new mine of scammers. This crypto scam is based on redirecting careless users to fake websites that open access to MetaMask wallets.

State-owned websites are used!

When a user clicks on any of the fake links in government website URLs, they are redirected to a fake URL instead of the original “MetaMask.io” URL. Then, Microsoft’s built-in security, Microsoft Defender, is notified and users are notified with a warning letter.

If users ignore the warning, they are redirected to a fake website that looks like the official MetaMask website. Fake websites are asking users to link their MetaMask wallets to access various services on the platform. The event chain is now complete for crypto thieves after the user has made the connection. Having full access to the wallets, the thieves transfer all the assets to their own wallets and complete the transaction.
