Lawyers want SBF banned from speaking to the media

Sam Bankman-Fried is accused of leaking the private diary of a former colleague to the media. A federal judge will soon decide whether or not to be barred from speaking publicly about this case. With the judge’s approval, Bankman-Fried will not be able to speak to the media or cause others to testify on his behalf.

A decision on Monday prohibited publicly disseminating any information or statement about the case that would affect a fair trial, or making statements aimed at influencing public opinion. In this context, parties, lawyers and representatives will not be allowed to talk about the case, and sensitive information such as the identities and statements of prospective witnesses will be prevented from being made public.

Bankman-Fried’s attorney acknowledged that his client would not speak publicly, but argued that the ban should also apply to other parties and witnesses, including FTX, Alameda Research and current FTX CEO John Ray.

The decision, which must be upheld by Judge Lewis Kaplan, will reportedly be heard in court on Wednesday. If the decision is upheld, Bankman-Fried will not be able to comment publicly on the case and will refrain from making statements that might affect the public. However, the right to claim his innocence will be reserved.
