OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to Run for US Senate
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman will attend a Senate panel for the first time next week as the technology becomes more powerful and pervasive. Altman will testify on Tuesday before the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law on what laws may be needed to protect Americans as governments and companies begin using AI in everything from medicine to finance and surveillance workers.
Altman also attended a White House meeting last week discussing how to secure regulatory measures. In response to a question about whether companies agree on the regulations, Altman told reporters:
“We are surprisingly on the same page as to what should happen.”
The chairman of the panel, Senator Richard Blumenthal, used the following statements in his statement on the subject:
“AI urgently needs rules and safeguards to address its big promises and pitfalls.”
