OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has warned with European authorities in Brussels about the consequences of overregulation of the AI industry. The CEO of the company recently answered the questions of the Senate in the USA.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Warns Regulators in Europe
Since the launch of artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ChatGPT in November 2022, its parent company OpenAI continues its battle with regulators around the world. This week, the company’s CEO, Sam Altman, spoke with officials in Brussels about the upcoming EU Artificial Intelligence Act, which has “many concerns”.
CEO Altman specifically emphasized that the regulations plan to include general-purpose AI technology such as Open AI’s GPT-4. He said the “details are important” of such legislation. It did, however, warn of the future of the company’s operations in Europe should very restrictive regulations come into force.
Altman used the following terms for hyper-regulatory frameworks:
“We will try to comply, but if we cannot, we will stop the activity.”
Google CEO Sundar Pichai also visited European capitals this week to speak with regulators as they work to create frameworks for AI regulation. According to representatives at the meetings, Pichai called for regulations that did not hinder innovation.
