Polygon to Release zkEVM Beta Network on March 27
Polygon, an Ethereum scaling project, has chosen March 27 as the date when the zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) beta mainnet will go live.
In a blog post, Polygon did not reveal what the beta network will include, but shared that the team will release more details in the coming weeks and that the security of the network will be the highest priority.
Zero-knowledge (ZK) technology is seen by many as a major advance for blockchains and cryptography, aimed at increasing the speed of transactions and reducing their costs.
ZkEVMs come across as a type of zero-knowledge (ZK) aggregation solutions, a scaling solution that processes transactions faster in a Layer-2 and then sends transaction data back to the mainnet blockchain, in this case Ethereum.
ZK aggregations use “evidence” to show that a transaction is not fraudulent, by simply sharing a piece of information about that transaction.
In October, Polygon went live with the zkEVM testnet, which deploys the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) for ZK technology, allowing Ethereum developers to migrate their smart contracts without having to reprogram them in a different language from their main Blockchain.
