Proof-of-Stake Consolidation Complete on Ethereum’s Ropster Testnet

Ethereum developers have completed the merge on the Ropsten testnet in preparation for the Ethereum merge that will take place later this year.

The merge, originally announced on June 3, took place this afternoon.

Ropsten’s proof-of-work chain has been combined with proof-of-stake by combining code. The defragmentation done is extremely important to see if the client software using Ethereum nodes is working without any glitches. Various software teams participated in the merger, including Lighthouse, Lodestar, Prysm, Teku, Besu, Erigon, go-ethereum (geth), and Nethermind.

Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin said of the merge that took place:

“Of course, a merge that works well for 6 hours is not proof of complete success. 3 weeks after the merger, there may be things that will trouble us”

The same merger will be done on the Ethereum mainnet. The exact time has not been announced yet.

A merge was also done last April on another testnet, Kiln.
