Turkey’s leading cryptocurrency trading platform Paribu conducted a research to reveal the general framework of the sports branches it supports with the Team Paribu project. According to the results; While 61 percent of the participants consider sports as a hobby, 28.8 percent say they can allocate a budget for sports equipment.
Paribu conducted the “Paribu Sports and Sports Perception Survey” in order to reveal the general framework of the sports branches supported by Team Paribu, which was formed to support Turkish sports and athletes. In the research; Attitudes towards sports and licensed sports, sports that are at the forefront in Turkey, families’ thoughts on continuing their children’s careers in sports, perceptions about making a career in sports, gender perception according to sports branches, between the 7 regions of Turkey regarding sports and athletes. Topics such as differences were analyzed in detail.

Can sports really be a professional business?
Research results show that 61 percent of the participants approach sports as a hobby. 81.3 percent of the participants aged 18-24; 45.8% of the 25-34 age group consider sports as a hobby. The results show that young people see sports more as a means of entertainment. While 39 percent of the participants accept it as a professional job; 91 percent think it is important to start sports at childhood. Looking at the results, it is seen that the average age that is considered ideal for starting sports is 9 years old.
Another important issue included in the research on the view of sports is about the budget allocated to sports. Only 28.8 percent of the participants allocate a budget for sports equipment; 45.2 percent think that sports is an expensive occupation. On the basis of regions; 62.5 percent of the participants living in the Marmara Region; In the Central Anatolia Region, 34.3 percent of the participants think that sports is not an expensive occupation. Another important output is about the reasons for being successful in sports. 61 percent of the participants stated that the way to be successful in sports is to work; 39 percent think it passed through talent. These two are followed by perseverance with 30.8 percent, support with 16.9 percent, education with 7.7 percent and healthy nutrition with 7 percent.
Does gender matter in sports?
Although gender, one of the most curious subjects of the research, differs from region to region, it generally follows a similar line. 92 percent of the participants state that gender is not important for being involved in a sport, while 8 percent state that it is important. The answers given by the participants stating that gender is important are remarkable. Participants who think that some sports branches are more suitable for men have stated these sports branches as boxing, wrestling and football. The participants, who think that some sports branches are more suitable for women, express these sports branches as volleyball, gymnastics, basketball and swimming.
It is not known which sport the children are inclined towards
64.5 percent of the participants do not know which sports branch their child is inclined to. However, many parents still believe that they can make decisions for their children and get to know them well enough. For this reason, 75 percent of the participants want their children to choose sports as a profession. When viewed on the basis of regions; The Aegean Region with 94.3 percent and the Marmara Region with 80.5 percent are the regions that support this view the most. The Eastern Anatolia Region, on the other hand, is the region with the highest rate of those who do not want their children to practice sports as a profession, with 70.8 percent.
Responding to the question of which sport they would like their children to be involved in, 19.3 percent of the parents answered football, 17.1 percent volleyball, 14.6 percent said combat sports. Among the reasons for this, they wanted their children to be healthy and to be able to protect themselves came to the fore.
