Telefonica Will Not Charge Turkey and Syria Calls

Telephone, together with its companies, announced that calls and SMS from Germany to Turkey and Syria will be free for ten days.

Germany-based global telecom company Telefonica expressed its support after two major earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş that also affected the surrounding provinces. The company stated that within the scope of its in-house services, there will be no charge for calls made and SMS sent from Germany to Turkey and Syria. Telefonica will continue this support until February 17th.

Telefonica: Every Contribution Matters

After the earthquake that took place in Kahramanmaraş and felt in the surrounding provinces, a worldwide aid and support mobilization began.

Telephone, which offered its condolences to Turkey due to the earthquake, also announced that it would support it. In the statement from the company, Telefonica and its sub-brands; O2, O2 Business, Blue, AY YILDIZ and Ortel Mobile will provide free services to Turkey and Syria. These companies will not charge any fees for calls and SMS sent from Germany to Turkey. The company announced that this support will be valid for ten days.

Stating that telecommunication is important, the company said, “This is to help people stay connected with their family, friends and loved ones.”said.

Telephone CEO Markus Haas stated that the images that came to him saddened them. In addition, Haas stated that every contribution that can be made to earthquake zones is important.

Sharing his views on the subject, Haas said;

“I am deeply shocked by the earthquake disaster. I was even more impressed with the willingness and support of our teams at O2 Telefonica and AY YILDIZ. Donations, charity work, or calls and messages that give hope and confidence… Every contribution counts. Let’s continue to stay close together for people in need.”
