Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), once a significant figure in Washington, DC and made great donations for Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the collapse of the FTX stock market. Now he is demanding amnesty from former US President Donald Trump.
FTX Founder SBF’s amnesty initiatives
Bankman-Fried started to exhibit high-profile appearances in conservative media organs by increasing its forgiveness efforts. The most remarkable of these was the “The Tucker Carlson Show” program, which he attended without approval. He was sentenced to cell sentence for this movement.
Although Carlson did not directly raise the issue of amnesty in the program, the SBF showing that he was interested in some republican ideas led to speculation that Trump could forgive him. After the program, the POLYMARKET estimate platform reported that the SBF’s probability of being forgiven almost doubled. According to The New York Times, Bankman-Fried is receiving legal consultancy from a lawyer close to Trump. In addition, his father Joe Bankman wrote an article that supports Trump’s Egemen Fund Plans.
What are the resources from the inside?
In spite of all these efforts, internal resources are skeptical about the possibility of SBF’s forgiveness. “I am sorry, but this is the Trump world… Almost zero.” commented. Bankman-Fried’s request for amnesty cannot be said to be completely impossible. Trump made statements that supported the crypto currency ecosystem in the past and forgave Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road.
However, Ulbricht has received extensive support by the crypto community, while the SBF, on the contrary, caused a major loss of confidence in the industry with its FTX collapse. Bankman-Fried’s family continues to receive legal support from a lawyer linked to Trump’s past campaigns. However, it is stated that there is no direct contact with Trump and the amnesty attempt did not gain the expected acceleration.
On the other hand, a crypto lobbyist speaking to Fortune, Trump’s crypto industry increasingly getting closer and forgiving pragmatic approach to the SBF’s chances, he added. However, the same lobbying stressed that the crypto community generally did not prioritize the forgiveness of the SBF, and therefore an amnesty decision is still low.
